"Embezzle the Elf Star," She Said
— for Barb Perry
An apocryphal division of time:
“Her gaffe,” Clepsydra wails, epochally
Embalmed in this masquerade, her qualm
& traipse in thought a kind of bombing aid.
“Giraffe & stymie! The jetty juts just so.”
& for all we know, it does, thrust as it is
Upon the great empyrean sea, in-
Apt, disproportionate, thalassic or
Pelagic, shore-washing, sky-enraptured
Blue, blue seas of our lost Pleistocene dreams.
Like that matters, engulfed & awash
Alee from the backwash of this tempest –
This storm, this contemporary madness.
The earth –its unease— shudders in contempt.
